The automated version of Windows Update only works if you are using Internet Explorer, and even then should only be used with caution.


A better alternative to get your patches for Windoze is to visit autopatcher.com where you can download cumulative patches, just the updates, and even "lite" and "ultralite" versions which only contain "critical updates" (if you aren't using Internet Explorer or Outlook which contain most of the vulnerabilities that is all you really need).
